Can anybody sensibly answer this - As the UK adopted metrication in 1973 (40 years ago!) Why are our speedo's stile calibrated in miles, to measure distance. :smokin:
Similarly consumption readings are given in MPG when fuel is sold in Liters? A 'UK' anomaly, which like most things no longer makes rational sense! :clown:

We asked europe to change over to imperial, but they were to thick to understand it...............
I personally think there is nothing wrong with buying a few furlongs of land:drool:
we didn't become 'metric' in 1973.... It has been a gradual process in various industries:wink:

You'd be better buying land in acres (Hectares as now is) Square measurement, rather than furlongs which was a linear measurement. I bet they still use Poles and Perches up in them there hills!
73 was when the government of the day agreed to a policy of metrication with a period 5 years, however like most everything else in this Country it all went squiffy! :119:
Now children don't know what a Inch, foot, yard, furlong or pounds and onz's, degrees F are, and we as adults of course are supposed to know everything
But I couldn't tell my daughter the answers to the principal questions above, "just not got round to it yet!" isn't IMO an acceptable answer to give a child :smt100

National pride. Do you know how hard it would be to change now. All the dumb s*&ts that would drive at the posted limit of 60, mile per hour that is, not kph.

They converted it over here a few years ago, so we got 120kph on motorways = an extra 4mph to play with!
But then they got to bring in a 30kph limit in cities, as it sounds much better than 18mph :moan:

Are you now getting new cars with Kilometer calibrated speedo's. It took a good 10 years to get used to the money! I think it's about time we bit the bullet and committed once and for all.

Yeah, it's been a legal requirement on new cars since 2006 I think. Never understood it myself, whole thing was a waste of time, money and resources IMO. If it ain't broke, etc

I said furlongs because there are 10 chains in a furlong, and 100 links in a chain
ask your daughter why everyone speaks different languages around the world....... should everyone speak english to make it easier for us? or retain some part of their national identity..... ie - do things have to change for changes sake?

Ask your daughter how you spell litres whilst you are there.
