View Full Version : So, is Elms worth the trip?
I wouldn't mind giving the CSL an annual check over, and subframe check etc etc.. but being based in Nottingham, and only 10 miles from Sytner, 15 miles from Sopers, is it worth the trek down the A1 to Cambridge guys?
o/t - and how do you edit username!?? I want MCSL if available?

I would say yes,
A lot of people come from further than that for there service work.
Make a day of it, also Gareth will let you have a good poke about under your car

I think a lot will depend on what sort of service/experience you have had with the more local Dealers mentioned. Even with the best of the best, can have their off days!
Change of 'Username' you'll have to PM 'Mark CSL'

I wouldnt bother with anywhere else now that i use Elms and there miles away from me.
Looks like Elms it is then.... :)
Do i need to speak to (or ask for) anyone when i book it in, or with it being a CSL will it automatically go to Gareth?

Most of the cars on the trip are looked after by ELM's apart from an oil change to one due to new engine, Giraffe had a great time enjoying the trip all cars went well, must be a credit to ELM's and they treat the cars like there own so you know in good hands.

Yes. Totally and absolutely.
I saw 3 dealers local to me to diagnose issues. They either couldn't find anything, or charged me and couldn't find anything. One dealer took the piss and took the car for a thrash. (Mileage, trip Mpg and gearbox left on s6) and then denied it.
Elms is exactly how all BMW service should be & Gareth knows CSLs so well it really is worth the trip.

I live about a mile from Sytners Nottingham.
They didn't know how to fill it with oil and guessed (wrongly)
Plus the service people make my skin crawl.
I'd maybe take a 320d there, but not anything specialist.
I take it to Elms now too

yeah i thought that was a bit of a cheeky highjack...Appologies:whistle:
As a side note;
having worked in 3 main dealer groups along the south coast I think it's very impressive that you guys hold a main dealer in such high regards. Generally speaking main dealers see a very limited number of M cars, and especially CSL's. After seeing what goes on in main dealers (again generally speaking) I can see why.
Its incredibly admirable what Elms & Gareth have done to keep a very demanding group of people very happy. Some people visit a dealer because they have to, some because they want to. At the end of the day enthusiasts want to know that their car is being worked on by knowledgeable technicians, and that the premium they pay for the main dealer stamp is worth it.
In this (in my opinion) isolated case, speaking from a relative competitor I have to take my hat off to the work that Elms are doing.
Is that better Shimmy??!! ;)

Planning to make the grand trip from London so Gareth can do a BMW Inspection II Service. Otherwise for most of the BMW Oil Services I just use BMW Park Lane (Battersea) who are so much nearer. And also BMW Park Lane were the supplying BMW Dealer :-)

I had my first experience of Elms Cambourne last weekend. What a refreshing change from the Usual Sy***r and Ry***e bullsh1t that I have endured in the past with previous BMW's!!
The hour and a half drive was well worth the effort for the service received, the car was on the ramp earlier than it was booked in, once completed the mechanic came over and had a chat to me for 15 minutes about the car and all of the items that needed attention. (In the past it has just been printed out with no explanation as to the solution or cost)
This is the first I have walked away from any service department happy with the work completed and the amount charged!!
As promised on Saturday I was contacted first thing Monday to book the car in for the other items to be addressed.
So to anyone asking the question is it worth the effort to go to Elms the answer is undeniably YES!:thumbs:
Just to update this thread - made the trip to Elms - great bloke is our Gareth and will deffo use Elms for servicing from now on. Subframe also booked in to be done next Feb.

I will also add that although I have put this on another thread just be a ware that ELMs will do brake fluid changes that are due on your car even if you do not have an OEM setup.
Apparently it is not rocket science !!
Do however remember to bring along your own fluid (I forgot as I did not realise).
My local BMW would not do it ...."our machines are designed around OEM brake set ups..." :119: . And I thought they were going to come out with something original like they cannot be bothered or did not know how to do it!!! - Is it just me -?

I'll second all of this. Elms and, in particular, Gareth and Emma have looked after my car since I bought it and have done an amazing job.

Stopped using official BMW garages for over 12 years but now go to Elms. Great attitude & service from Emma & Gareth. You are treated as an individual, respect your wishes & not treated in the usual corporate BS manner. I would imagine Gareth is the best csl technician in the country.
