Over the past 10 years I've done maybe 4 trackdays usually in an classic Porsche, so I'd class myself as a novice trackday'er

Doing loads of trackdays isnt' really my thing, but I do fancy doing an odd 1 or 2 in the CSL.

Any recommendations on what is the best track to start with, somewhere with plenty of run off etc . Would Bedford or Silverstone be a good starting point ?

Bedford great, tonnes of run-off and every type of corner to learn the car

ETA bit far from you though....

donington is pretty open  just the esses to negotiate safely really, then you can drive like a loon everywhere else :supz:

funnily enought there may be a few csl's there in august...

The problem with Bedford is the strict noise regs - CSLs driven with vigor can easily get black flagged and asked to leave (if you don't know where to lift off the throttle).

I'd say the best track is the one you know the best - that way you can build up speed and learn the car, rather than having to learn the track as well :).

Bedford

CSLs are fine (unless you have full supersprint and 100 cell cats you may be close) - Group M don't bother

Ive done Bedford 15 times with no bother and it is the best to try the car for sure.

.

That's not really true Mike, it takes some severe exhaust mods to fail a CSL at Bedford

thanks all :)

Sounds like Bedford might be good.

I've driven croft before and quite enjoyed it ( it is very local to me ) ... not sure if a BMW trackday is the best place to go for my 1st trackday and learning the car ... no experience of the BMW car club or its members

Out of interest, my 1st ever trackday was in the wet @ Cadwell .. that was an interesting experience, can't say I really enjoyed it either . Most enjoyable trackday I had was at goodwood

I think Bedford would be good choice. BM car club I'd imagine you'd be fine as they like rules/regs and good behavior when I've been on with them.

I struggled ALL day at Bedford with noise and imo ruined the day for me, completely std car apart from Agency Power rear box.

You have an exhaust that does nothing apart from make it noisier, what did you expect? :P

I was at croft on a BMW Track day a few years ago (prior to me owing a CSL).

The CSL that was present with standard exhaust got black flagged. He was allowed out though in the afternoon for some 'limited' time after some protesting and the car being given the once over.

The induction roar did sound amazing though blasting past the Start / Finish.

I've taken my car to Bedford several times - standard exhaust set up, no issue whatsoever. It's definitely the best for learning the car without fear of binning it too. I spun mine several times on a wet day there.
