AC Schnitzer this morning was off the scale for a petrol head. We were very lucky to experience that. Lots of pics to come I am sure.

F1 GTR anyone ?

Schnitzer was fantastic, seeing the DTM cars up close, Q & A, etc. only meant to be a one hour tour but lasted nearly two.

was a fantastic trip to ASC, two stripped and prepped DtM, F1GTr and LM1 Wiliams BmW plus a real nice man who calmed down and gave us twice the time promised i think as he could see and feel our enthusiasm

It's actually Schnitzer Motorsport, Freilassing near Salzburg. Opposite the BMW AC Schnitzer dealership (for normal cars). I don't think you can just rock up, you will need to do some grond work to get a visit as it's a working race-prep HQ and not set-up for sightseers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnitzer_Motorsport

I didn't realise that they run BMW Motorsport's cars and they have a serious trophy and car collection as a result.

They said they'd get an F1 out and I initially assumed they meant some other race series variant, but then walked outside to see a Maclaren F1 GTR from '97 Le Mans right there ! Unbelievable. They opened up the doors and engine bay etc for us to have a good look around. It had the lowest ground clearance I have ever seen.

We were asked not to take any photos of the DTM cars being prepped in the workshop. The technicians were working all around us and all the body panels were off to expose the engineering. Serious, serious machines those.

Notably all the race cars we saw were NA and had massive carbon airboxes :notworthy:

We were also showed the lorries that transport the cars to the races. The chaps were so good, gave us unrestricted access and so much time.

Anyone lucky to be there might have noticed the list of race success's on the wall behind the 'second' car on the left as we went in ...lets just say the over-used saying "second is the first loser" might have been written by them - quite motivational that wall

I have a few pictures which I've not published as requested by AC Schnitzer which I could put on the Trip DVD as they're taken from outside and no great detail - comments???

Frustrating, but...you did nail it round the Italian alps and Monaco etc in a CSL, probably more fun that most people who buy 'performance' cars in the UK will ever know :)

Charly did give permission for photos to be taken from outside, but to be safe I could contact him with regard including them on the DVD. If nothing else out of courtesy.

Hey Jim, thanks again for letting me follow you, I know it must've been nerve wracking having an amateur follow in his CSL not knowing braking points and apex's etc. appreciate your patience with me.

The lap in your car was awesome, thanks again for that. Wish we'd had time to do more, we 'just' made the ferry, albeit with a loose splitter!
