View Full Version : Cat D CSL?
Hi,
What would you think a Cat D CSL is worth?
Not damaged but been in a flood. Only been up to the seat mounts.
All new carpets etc. In mint condition.
Full spec car with air con, PDC, Xenons etc.
25,000 miles 2 owners. Full Service history.
Cheers

Ah, saw this on the CSL forum on Piston Heads....in the thread for the chap who wanted a Credit Crunch CSL.
Isn't the chap putting it on Ebay but will take 23k for it......Thats 2k under the cheapest one for sale at the moment.....it's a diffucult one as flood damage can damage what you can not see.
A friend buys stuff like this and he purchased a Maserati Gransport, low miles and in top condition but had been flood damaged again up to the seat mounts....He never had any problems with it until he came to sell, but he paid 15k for the car...Maserati would have had the car up for 34k if it had not been flood damaged....So the price was low enough to take a chance.
For a 2k saving probably not......as I say it's a difficult one but I'm not sure if I would pay more than 18k......but what do I know.

Agreed Andy, absolute max would be £18K. As a road car it will always have problems (intermittant electric gremlins etc) and I wouldn't buy it. Strip it back for a CSL Cup and it is a different matter.

Happy for everyone to have opinions, however the proof will be in the pudding or the sale of this particular Cat D (B?). I wouldn't touch it and I imagine most others would either for the same reasons as me...

well looking at what its making your massively outnumbered as the guy says he's done 10k in it and it has'nt missed a beat.
a few inches of fresh water is'nt going to hurt a car built as well as a bm

Seems to like his write offs - Another (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2007-BMW-335D-M-SPORT-TOURING-CAT-D-REPAIRED-NO-RES_W0QQitemZ150321843598QQihZ005QQcategoryZ9837QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemurl) of his, and only bought it a week ago.

Dave, for the water to come in through the doors, it has stood in more than a few inches for a significant amount of time (days), then stood in someone's yard for at least a week but prob more after being recovered, still wet. This will give you all sorts of problems later on and is devalued by the trade for exactly this reason. Hence it has been Cat D (I think Cat B actually, does anyone know?) rewitten off but repairable.
As for the trouble free 10K miles.......! I have to say I was expecting the owner (who is keen to sell) to say "I had it for the last 10K and it keeps cutting out, especially as I go to overtake. There is a bit of a damp smell but you get used to it, don't worry. Oh, the electrics fizz a bit and there is a burning smell but I bet that is just speeding up the car being fully dried out!" Sellers always give a full and complete list of faults don't they???
£18K and he'll be a lucky vendor. Unless the potential new owner is going to have it stripped for something like the CSL Cup by Thorney, I wish them all the best as they'll need it.
I also emphasise I'm not talking this one down because I have secret plans to buy it, it really isn't the one for me!

Doesn't matter what car it is, because as soon as it becomes cat D it will shed loads off its value and will become a limited market....but there will alsways be someone willing to take a chance for a bargain, but still think anything over 18k is too much of a risk....you pay your money...

I struggle to believe peoples cover stories when they sell cat D cars.
Just save the money and get a non recorded car!
