Hi all ///M Fans!
I want to share my new race project standard E36 M3 3.0 286hp to reborn in proper race car for Time Attack Championship with V10 M5 Engine from BMW E60 M5 2007 on 56k miles.
Before to make this new vision I use the car in our Time Attack Championship in Bulgaria with his standard engine.I was bought the car from UK,this is my 3rd ///M car and 5th BMW who was buy for UK.
I drive the car 2 seasons before make this conversion which is not yet finished.I hope for the next race sesson the car will be done and ready for race.
When I buy the car in 2010 I try to cut all interior and all parts is not needed from inside.
Make custom roll cage like FIA Instructions and put he proper suspesion Bilstein B14 Coilover kit and all around fit Poweflex bushes, new strut braces.Full rebuild the OEM ///M Brakes with EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads, rebuilt and sprayed the brake calipers, new Zimmermann Formula Z brake discs and Goodridge brake hoses.Put the Combrake hydraulic handbrake for cornersJ
Custom full exhaust system, straight pipes is so so loud!
Put the new clutch kit+flywheel Sachs Performance and the new “shoes” 4 x 9x18 ET 27 all around from E46 M3 Style 67 M Doppelspeiche resprayed in satin black with Pirelli Pzero 24/64/18 full slick.

Now in 2013 the all concept will be change I will make a DTM/GTR Vision WIDEBODY,Lightweight version with many parts from real carbon fibre and fiberglass parts too with V10 M5 Engine with 507hp with Kohler Racing Engine Management Kit and use the manual 6 speed gearbox from BMW E39 M5 S62 Engine. The clutch kit I thing will be from import direct from USA on Clutch Masters with lightweight flywheel from UUC,Fidanza etc.
All new exhaust system of course and thing will be very interesting because I make end tail pipe ends from real carbon fibre.New cooling system with Mishimoto aluminium water radiator with new douple electric fans may be 12” or 14” inch wide.If nessesery I will put second water radiator for most effective cooling system.
The body work is almost done-need only made a “VENTURY” effect carbon rear side splitter and make a general change in cockpit.
I try to uptade when make new on the car but because stay some days on dynoJ for proper settings on the car I try to make many photos to show all project.
I hope in the end of this year I will put the engine, gearbox and all mechanical parts in the car because have many months work on the car and want when she is be done be the a real race car for many funs days and enjoy with her every minute.
I will work slow but carefully and proper because this project is so expensive and hard to finish for me and I want to make a good real race for for international Time Attack or Track Days Events.
Enjoy with some photos fro last uptade on the carJ

Hi,
Will be interesting to see how the V10
goes on the ''Kohler'' ECU.
My understanding is that its running a 64 Bit
Processor and its functionality speed will
be ''OK'' in that much of the BMW Can-Bus is
not in operation thus allowing the ECU to
operate things like the Stepper Motors etc
at their normal speed.
I am not 100% convinced, in that the MS S65 DME
actuates the stepper Motors at something like
0.1 of a Milli second so not sure how this
will be compensted if its not fast enough
as your Vanos Spread and Fueling etc are correlated
and governed to an extent by TPS and Load etc,
all calculated by the ECU.
Its a little bit different on the Engine Dyno
as regards being sat in your Car.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56x9Tr5BlhI
Are you running SMG III or the Manual V8 Box ?
If its SMG III, then I will be really interested to see
how it all functions.
Regards,
The Gorilla.
Edit- just saw that its Manual Box
///martin
26-10-2013, 12:24 PM
I use a E92 M3 S65 6 speed manual gearbox.
The Kohler Racing Management kit is comes with his own ECU not OEM and the OEM wiring loom is moded to work with this ECU.Actually i will used this management kit with OEM ,standart sensors etc.
The Gorilla
26-10-2013, 02:03 PM
Hi,
Many thanks foir the reply.
Yes, I am aware that the Kohler DME
is standalone ECU / DME and uses a bastardised
Engine harness.
Its a Tornado ECU replacing the 32 Bit Typhoon
DME, which was used in the same
manner, bastaridised std engine harness
as a Kit for the S54.
I was interested to understand that even
though the Kohler ''standalone ECU/DME'' is not
having to control ''other car functions''
via the Can Bus, was its default processor
speed able to operate the requirments of
the Engine functionality, more so the
Stepper Motors as they are twin in the
Case of the V10 and this is an area
where a lot os standalone ECU/DME
come unstuck.
Regards,
The Gorilla.
Regards,

Last week we go to dyno to first run and check all work correct ;)
I thing the result will be ok like for first time-400hp on the wheels and 498hp on the engine.Try to the end of year real tests on the track and in the spring next year try again on dyno and see results again ;)
Quick video to "hear" our work :supz:

Wow what a coincidence, just yesterday i was daydreaming about buying an e36 and shoving a s85 into it..;)
I love your car and the way it screams :smt055 Pls post more videos :supz:
Just one question though, why does it "only" produce 500HP at the crank?
Most v10 conversions seem to have around 550HP? Is it because of the complex header design you have to use?
I think 100HP assumed drivetrain loss is a bit on the high side. But who cares.

No possible stock engine to produce 550hp on the crank.
The headers is stock, the cats it's delete,X straight pipes with Flowmaster Pro 50 mufflers and Akrapovic carbon tail pipes for shine :) ,Kohler Racing engine management :)
Every dyno is different to measure the horsepower. For us was a so important to make a right mixtures ;) Make a real test on the track and after that go to dyno again ;)

According to the pics you have removed the cats in the stock-headers, right?
I was under the impression that with removal of the cats in the headers and a software the s85 will make around 550hp at the crank.
But i have no personal experience with the v10, its just what i read on various forums.
Either way, your car is totally bonkers.:supz: I wonder how much does it weigh?
And please invest in a go-pro.. we want to see it in action:whistle:

Yes,correct-stock headers and removed cat's....
The weight is over 1150kg. when I check before 2 years but now have new modifications, new carbon doors coming soon, new lightweight, new design bonnet and I hope will be more lightweight, but if stay on this kilo's again is so fast :)
P.S.Have a Go Pro :D

Yes,correct-stock headers and removed cat's....
Not sure, if we understood each other correctly. But the stock s85 headers have a cat built into them.
So in total the M5/M6 has 4x cats (2x inside the headers / 2x in the middle)
http://www.mwerks.com/artman/uploads/features/m5_exhaust.jpg
And i thought if you remove the first cats after the headers and a software tune you get like 540-550HP out of the v10.
The weight is over 1150kg.
:119: Fuck me, that is some proper power to weight ratio. :notworthy:
Cheers Julian

Studs are perfect when you use alot of different wheels/spacers.
Just noticed the "VI TEN" number plate.. that does ring a bell or two about some other s85 swap. :smokin:
Cant wait to see (hear) your car in action.
Wish you a happy new year.

Yes.. way too short. Stop the teasing already:bigcry:

What sizes are you currently running? Maybe you need a big racing wing for more downforce on the rear?

Haha, yes the v10 likes to drink :hahaha:

my csl needs a wash aswell
Joking aside, yes, i love that evo style wing you got but it doesn't do much for downforce. So i think a proper racing wing would help you alot with getting the power down.
