View Full Version : My car started pinking again.....

Previously it was due to cheapo lambda's fitted, a change to new genuine ones sorted that. On my way back from Devon recently it started pinking a little on part light throttle. Before going down the compression / leak down test for HG issues I thought I'd take a look at changing the coils and plugs. In short there was a mixture of old bremi and 1 new bosch coils so I changed them all for new bosch ones (£17ea ebay). The plugs were well worn ngk dual electrode ones so I changed them for a full set of ngk iridium ones (£38 per set ebay).
The car now starts and idles so much smoother, unbelievably more I'd say. It's super smooth on the road too. It's not been this smooth to drive since I bought it. NO pinking either :supz:

Just a pointer if anyone else is or does in the future experience slight pinking, MAYBE try this first :-D

The NGK IX plugs are great, I've been using them for over a year. The car feels much more lively.
IIRC, they are about £40 a set, so a lot cheaper too.

The DCPR8EIX are an upgrade plug for the S54 engine over the OEM DCPR8EKP :smokin:
Here's NGK guide to confirms this: http://www.ngkpartfinder.co.uk/car_commercial_extra.php?id=6569

It didn't happen. A call out to 10' of original 1870's ornate cornicing detaching itself from the ceiling of a grade 1 listed property put paid to it :(

On a plus my invoice will pay for some new cups :partyman::-D

A result of sorts :smokin: just don't get your hopes up on getting your CUPs quickly or for a good price :bigcry:

I moved my business to ///M-L from there too, can't think of anything eloquent to say about Chandlers atm so 'bell-ends' will suffice for now...

They certainly made a MASSIVE difference to my car but that was likely down to one or more duff original plugs or coils. Maybe you won't notice anything, maybe that occasional stumble at idle or temperamental running when in the warm up cycle will be reduced or sorted. It's just nice to know that such a highly tuned /strung engine has the best plugs out there fitted. For under £40 too

I'm not connected to the seller in any way either :hahaha:
