I think you just buy a new key. They recharge when they are in the ignition.
If you want to change it you can do it with a soldering iron though:

I think they do charge up when they are in the ignition.
Although a new key from the dealers is about £80 IIRC.

my car's battery went flat due to lack of use then the poxy alarm is doing it's nut at 4am why does'nt it ever happen at 4pm :banghead:
now my button's dont work coincedence?

Yes they do charge up but rechargable batteries do die in the end.
I recall the price being higher than that - you need to pay labour for coding it to the car too, had to have one as the dealer lost my key while servicing it (unbelievable eh!).

My alarm started going mental (always in the middle of the bloody night) - unplug the bonnet switch and see if it goes away, if it does then swap that, was about £7 and took 2 mins.

The bonnet switch on E46's are well known to fail and cause the alarm to go off.
A simple replacement cures that problem.
