Who the hell said taking the airbox off was straight forward!!!!

5 hours bonnet up to down...

Inlets got a good clean. unbelievable how shitty the inside of the airbox was

New igt filter fitted

trying to get the oil drain back into the box was epic.

A genuine tip for inlet clips....make sure you don't drop any post airbox fitment....FCUK also for anyone thinking of airbox therapy make sure you slacken both 10mm nuts holding the base of the airbox onto the metal support bracket....

will give a full step by step method if anyone wants an idiots guide!!!

I agree I did mine recently and found it a nightmare to put back on! Have you found the itg filter sounds any difference:thumbs:

I've just done mine too in the last few days, an absolutely back breaking job :banghead:

I too was amazed at the crap (and grit) in the bottom of the air box, a fair bit of oil around the rear three trumpets too. A good spray with maf cleaner and a hoover sorted that out.

Def more noise from the ITG filter.

Second time you take the air box off it's much faster - just don't knock off one of the splitters with you shoe, like I did.

Forgot to say - my problem first time round was getting the bottom air intake to mate properly - fixed with some gaffer tape to hold the top part of the tube to the air intake whilst negotiating the bottom half on (seems easier to do it this way.)

All went well; did an oil and filter change and airbox clean in 3 hours with some dicking about and cleaning thrown in.

The frikkin airbox was skanking as per usual!

I'm sure it's just because i know i've just done the work but the car does feel/sound better after an oil change! Feels good doing it for yourself for less ££ too!

Do you piss all over the bathroom floor Rob

You got more oil on the floor than in the drain tub:hahaha:

Feels great to DYI, doesn't it  but you've missed that oil tray on the floor by a mile mate  :hahaha:
The trumpets seem to get this oily due to the S54 being a heavy oil vapour breather and the breather pipe enters the CF air box @ above cylinder/trumpet No. 4/5 and gets splattered over 5 & 6, in the usual forward motion.
As a side thought, I've always wondered it this has anything to do with HG failure on the CSL, usually between cylinder 5 & 6 ??? with the Air / Fuel mixture enriched by the extra oil vapour, so maybe burning/detonating at different temps, etc. What's your thoughts on this ?

Lawsy,

I removed the entire airbox, not just the cf secton revealing the filter.
cleaning all the internals of the airbox and deep clean of the inlet ports.
20 minutes is mighty impressive!!

I didn't check this for alignment!! bollox...guess what i'm doing sunday!!

ITG filter seems to make more noise.....may just be placebo but 100 cell cats are a huge improvement on the sound!!

My bottom intake tube refused to 'stick' with any gutso to the underside of the intake. As soon as I had mated the intake to the main engine, the bottom pipe moved...

You need fingers like ET to get down there (from the top anyhow).

Access to the other end of the bottom tube is possible from the top, by the viscous fan area - more room to wiggle the tube into its other fitting (not roomy by any stretch tho')

The gaffer tape allowed the top part of the tube to stay in position - it's still there - my first Mod!

Arh help please. I'm in the middle of putting the airbox input pipes on. But I'm struggling to find where the secondary pipe gos. Ie the one that comes from the base of the airbox to behind the headlight. I've got the headlight out now.

I ended up realigning the bumper inlet pipe to get the snorkel to fit correctly .

This is after filter swap and clean

Anyone !?!!
