Has anyone got any better images than the usual one floating around on the net?

The reason being, I think the CSL inlay into the cover looks like it is just a cut down version of the one that is in the door kick panels (the flag seems to go right to the edge).

A better picture might be able to confirm this....?

Yep, the carbon fibre rocker cover with the CSL inlay only appeared on the initial concept model and was subsequently dropped, didn't appear on any Launch models.

The photograph of the engine bay is from the press pack, probably the only one you'll find that shows that somewhat naff, cut-down kick plate inlay. (shades of the plaque)

What would it have cost them to produce a bespoke one, probably pence in the scheme of things. Just a pity the dropped the CF cover as well.:bigcry:

I want to make one for my car, but wanted to see how long to cut the inlay down to.

Someone (Roland or Levente?) might have some other pictures....

I asked BMW a few years back if they would be willing to create some engine covers for us, the answer was no.

From the photo you can see it's half of the diameter of the oil filling cap.
I would put the door sill next to the oil filling cap and see if it looks the same size; as in the CSL concept car.

Its the length I am interested in - you can't see where it stops in this photo...

The quality of the BMW CSL production carbon is not very good anyway (although the airbox is better having been done in 2 x 2 twill rather than plain weave).

The above prototype appears to be far nicer 4x4 twill, along with far better quality than what ended up on the production cars.

Check where the chequered flag is ending on the right side and make the left side equal in length.
I believe it is symetrical.

I also had the same idea a year or so back but never went through with it.

This is what I came up with whilst playing around:

Looks good would it be readable on a carbon dash insert, how do you work out your car number.

Were on Rocker Covers Craig for Dash inserts see: http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10237&page=2

Production number is just a matter of Interpolation! What confuses people is the fact that the Production Cars started at 98021 (July 03) not as you might think at 98000.

The first car off the line was pre-poduction and numbered 001 (Sept 02), followed by another 6 all of which were pre-production models and finished on Vin 012, numbers 003, 006, 008, 009 & 010 were not used.

If you want your production number send a PM and I'll see what I can do.

PS: The build data available does not correspond with the magical '422' if you take that as being written in tablets of stone?

I was told(not sure if it is true)that the last 3 digits of your vin number was your build number e.g mine is 099.we should get as many as we can to add their name and last 3 digits to see if it makes sense.

Can you get that in silver as a deal meaning it sticks on without a background?just letters that transfer straight to the cover?

Hence why I said I was told but weren't sure if it was true.
But surely BMW somewhere knows how to identify the production numbers and how to identify build orders.

They probably do, but it would take 'effort' to find out, which is a rare commodity these days.
I waited patiently at the BMW Parts counter the other day for 20mins before someone asked me "Are you being served?" to which I replied "No I Bl__dy well wasn't" humble and profuse apologies followed.
Symptomatic of today's society.:banghead:
