Interesting that the OEM front wheel from a CSL is lighter than the narrower OEM CS front Wheel.Must be Magnesium after all:hahaha:
(Both the OEM wheels have the BMW stamp and BBS on the back.)
ONLY FRONT WHEELS WERE COMPARED
The results:
CSL Replica front (19" x 8.5"): 10.46Kg
OEM BMW CS front (19" x 8"): 10.43Kg
OEM BMW CSL front(19" x 8.5"): 10.29Kg

Brett,
I do beleive that the CSL wheels were a Magnesium / alloy mix whereas the CS were just alloy.
...................I think.

If you're asking about the weight of the OEM CSL rears, they are 10.6 kg each :smokin:

Are you sure about these figures ? I think they are way off.
Do you have any pictures that prove this ?

No,can't confirm them Alex, what do you think they should be.
I know these figures (http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134731&postcount=30)
OEM CSL 19 x 8.5J -> 12.6kg
OEM CSL 19 x 9.5J -> 13.8kg
I don't see how the CSL wheel is lighter than the BBS LM for example.
Untill I see a picture showing this weight, I will remain sure the weights are 12.6 and 13.8.
Here are the M3 GTS or M3 Competition wheels.
Although not the same exactly, you can get an idea about weight. The newer wheel should // theoretically // be lighter.
19 x 9J ET31 11.8kg

19 x 10J ET25 12.15kg

I hope I am totally wrong and the CSL wheels to be so light.

Just found this also
s m said:
I did wonder that - the Style 163 CS wheels certainly seem to be lighter than the 19" polished Style 67s on the normal M3 by some 2.5kg per rear wheel and approx 2.2kg per front wheel. Nearly 10kg overall
However, the part number that 'darreni' has given for the bespoke CSL rears seems to resolve as the same part number for the CS rear wheels now, 36 11 2 282 999?
The CSL fronts are unique as they are 8.5" x 19s whereas the CS are just 8" and have a different offset.
That's why I wondered if the original CSL rear wheels weren't available any longer and they'd just gone to CS rears.
Any CSL nut know the comparative weights of the CSL fronts vs the CS fronts and CSL rears vs CS rears?
Did the CSL used to use Style 127s and they've now morphed to to a 163 variant?
I started looking into wheel weights earlier in the year as was interested to see why a good few Japanese CSLs were running Rays TE37s
Anyway, the general consensus that I found on CSL and Comp Pack (CS) wheels were that the rears were the same, but the CSL fronts were slightly lighter, despite being wider:
Front ZCP: 19x8 et47 23.0 lbs
Front CSL: 19x8.5 et44 22.8 lbs
Rears both: 19x9.5 et27 24.2 lbs

Nothing wrong with my scale, I didn't weight the CSL wheels.
These were figures of the famous wheelweights.net and BMW ETK.
Both of them were wrong.
What I am surprised with is why people pay so much money to get BBS LM (for example) when they are heavier than the OEM CSL wheels.
