It's my only car as I don't need a daily. But I am beginning to realise I do need a snotter for duties which I want to stop using CSL for (weekend trips to tip, supermarket, motorway trips around the country to friends and family)....will start looking in next 6m
Needs to be fun, quickish but a motorway cruiser, able to carry load and something I can park on the street in East London with peace of mind.
Thinking 330d, Impreza wagon / a hatch Like a Golf GTi
Only stipulation is I need SMG / DSG type thing for missus.
What do you use ?

Debadged black/black V10 are lush mate.....and silly money now....but I think the insurance would kill me parked on street in E14.

Got a E91 335d touring.
Great car. Only problem is the gearbox. They're all autos. It's ok and does the job as a daily, but annoying after the CSL's SMG. Always changes up whether in sport or not.

135cc but bored out to a 158cc auto box
Matt black and Brembo's front and rear......
Will do 120kph and cost 200 baht (4.40gbp) to fill up for the week :-D:-D

We bought a Megane GT Line diesel for my wife and I love it. Quick, surprisingly good in the corners and nobody will bother with it wherever you park. Looked at a Golf GT diesel and chose the Megane over it.
Had a 320d sport with DSG from Elms on loan and it was good.

I use a 123d for daily duties but its too small in the back so currently looking to get an E91 330d touring.
I had seriously been considering grabbing a nice E61 M5 touring as their used prices are dropping fast but their average mpg figures are simply too scary, lol! :119:

It was a toss up between Sneterton Tuesday and Donington Monday.......and Donny won!
My daily snotter is a 740i Sport with serious chance of bein written off as soon as the insurance pays out?... Thinking I'll be getting a 5 series Touring, prob a 520d MSport as the fuel cost is so good (but would rather have the 535 tbh. M 740 is now doing 14k a year so I could almost pay for the monthly premium with the saving in fuel cost :(

M135i hatch for daily. Range Rover TDV8 for family duties, load carrying and trailer. Golf TDi for the Mrs. Covers all needs very nicely.
If I'm honest, could (should) do without the M135i. Only done 2400 miles in 6 months! Shocking really.

Proud to say I have a Gen 3 Toyota Prius as my daily snotter.
95K miles from new and just coming up to three years old.
I charge my company approved mileage rates - 45p for first 10k miles and then 25p per mile thereafter.
Fuelly logs my fuel costs per mile as just over 10p, so a nice little earner.

We've got an E90 M3 which I use during the week when at home and she uses when not working, and a Mk5 TDi Golf for her work and my weekend, lol
Hoping to chop in the Golf for a Mk7 soon though, and think along the lines of the GTi after the recent Autocar and Evo reviews but to be honest although it makes no economical sense since she does high miles. Maybe the GTD but heavy money for a Golf IMO.

I have a 996 GT3 for occasional trips out (Waitrose :-D) and alternating with the CSL for track days and a 2006 Mini GP (supercharged) for a general run about. Mrs Pip has a Cooper.
The GP was brought into replace my 1999 M5, 400bhp of loveliness which was t boned by an old biddy pulling off her drive, driving forwards believe it or not. Anyway the car was written off and despite the fact that I could have repaired her with some jiggery pokery outside of insurance through BMW Mrs Pip said I should stop wasting money on an old car. The GP was bought as a more economical run about :-D but it is too easy to do the same sort of mpg with a supercharged car and Porsche/BMW bait .
No 'diseasels' for me thank you.

I was looking for an Impreza Wagon as an all-year runabout. But couldn't find one that didn't have 'issues'.
Settled for a '05 Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI estate. Small, frugal, torquey, practical body shape and very cheap to fix. It's got 14" steel wheels and it's brilliant and being crap enough that we don't care about it. No worries about theft, scratches, or kerbing etc. Winter tyres for it are £35 each :)

Thanks for that I really appreciate it! I probably could have brought another csl for the money but it's been a ongoing project and a one off! and where some people spend a fortune and don't get anywhere near what they spent back I know all the parts will hold there money so most have been an investment that won't lose money.

Thanks a lot mike:thumbs: I did see the American one but it did still have lots off bits missing like interior ect I have been very anal to do this checking parts on my genuine csl and with regards to weight I think the blue one will be a touch lighter because apparently a manual is 18 pounds lighter than a smg the car is also going to have a magazine feature done on it soon as well:thumbs:

Please, please check, as I think there is more to the CSL weight loss than meets the eye. You only have to look at the track car thread here: http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10234, where the car is stripped to almost nothing and uses many CSL parts (and some even lighter parts), yet despite this is STILL heavier than a fully trimmed CSL :smt107 .

From what I've heard from a few people, paint readings on CSLs seem to be a good bit lighter than standard M3s (except on the front bumper ). No idea how much weight that saves but goes to show you the lengths BMW went to if true
That's a very impressive conversion, hats off to you! :)

Your right I've done much research to what parts where changed to get the weight loss and I know I've done everything I have compared parts from a stripped out csl and stripped the inside off mine and lost all the sound deading and weighed parts all along and it's quite incredible the lengths they went to even the cardboard boot carpet compared to a normal m3 boot carpet is a big difference the pollen filter housing even the front anti rollbar even though bigger has a hollow structure but weighs half off a normal m3 one the biggest weight saving to a normal m3 is the front seats those alone are 4 stone!

From what I've heard from a few people, paint readings on CSLs seem to be a good bit lighter than standard M3s (except on the front bumper ). No idea how much weight that saves but goes to show you the lengths BMW went to if true
That's a very impressive conversion, hats off to you! :)
Thanks very much:thumbs:

Can't remember the numbers/microns, but I've read that somewhere too, I'll look it up in the mags/articles I've collected when I get back home... unless Neil M gets there first :-D
Stuart or Dan @ M/L confirmed this 'rumour' to me a few months back when I joined the csl 'fold' :)
BTW: Fantastic job on the car...

Nope, you need 'AlexK' for that, but I can believe it eg. 2002 series to E series the paint thickness was reduced by 50%.
She's beautiful Paul, obviously a labour of Love and refreshing to see a bit of colour in an otherwise Black and Grey world:thumbs:

I've talked to a couple of detailers who've taken readings on maybe 4 or 5 CSLs and they all seem to be lighter to the numerous standard M3s they've had in. Maybe someone in Munich might be able to confirm next week

Before I bought my car I had a Comprehensive RAC PPI completed. They check the paint thickness as part of the vehicle check and the guy inspecting it said the paint thickness was 1/2 that of a regular E46M3 all over (except the front bumper, which had been resprayed).

Also done rac survey on my car when I purchased paint definitely thinner than normal M3 around 100 microns from memory.
Thanks for that I really appreciate it! I probably could have brought another csl for the money but it's been a ongoing project and a one off! and where some people spend a fortune and don't get anywhere near what they spent back I know all the parts will hold there money so most have been an investment that won't lose money.
Good work :supz: and like you point out all those parts will always be worth a small fortune I don't think you'll ever lose out with what you've done :smokin:
This is my other toy, was running a 2276cc turbo'd & chargecooled 323bhp @21psi motor but after a near death moment is now about to have a 2366cc 210bhp Porsche 914 engine fitted...

I have nearly an identical bike that I recently picked up, was very tatty so has been rebuilt. Would love to find out the exact model but short of taking the paint off to look at the serials I'm not sure how. Here she is with my other project, built for the scottish sports and saloons. Running a 400bhp 1.8t, in the last stages of the build, hope to be testing it for the first time in three years within a couple of months.
