due to the offset you have to run -3 camber to avoid arch rubbin.

on track ok but on road tramlines like a bugger

Pretty much as Shimmy said. I loved it on track but was a bit of a pig on road. With the right set up the front end is absolutely nailed on but only worth doing in warm/dry conditions and tracks where you need a good front end. I don't mind running the setup for a quick road run to a track but for touring forget it. Best way to do square set up is with 18" wheels and the right off set. It's a bit easier on road then as you can run slightly less extreme camber. Ask Shimmy about that.

I only run it occasionally to get rid of my 265 Cup mountain of part worn tyres.

cslsuperfan - as they say, wheel rub is problem, and defo if you were tracking it fast in a compression.
Im running square set up on 18" TD's, and found -3 a bit too much, and rubbed inside tyre edges out too quick, I run -2.5 and get a more even tyre wear.

80 mile test drive today.

no rubbing on front arches on road test

car clatters a little more over poor road surfaces(30 profile doesn't seem to affect speedo accuracy.. 80mph @ 3000 rpm which is what it was before running 235's on the front)

tramlining is interesting!!

turn in is sharp!!! cesil behaved well but the tramlining keeps you honest and both hands definitely on the wheel

i'll bring both front wheels on the munich trip just incase i have a change of heart:-D

I run mine at -3.3 with even wear on last set of cups on 18's and last set of GY's on 19's.

I dont mind it tram lining on country roads as used to it now.

But do swap rims round each TD.

I have recently tried an 18x 9.5J ET25 up front and found no issues of yet. Tiny rub on plastic wheel liner on full lock.

18" is the better option in my opinion but std 19" do make the car look hard as hell!

Oh, and forget the spacers on front with rears.

Lovely :).

Could you (both) post up some side on and ¾ angle pictures showing both the front and rears together :)?

Looks like a great set-up Ben, for reversing (Rear wheels on the front)? :hahaha:
If it was the optimum set-up don't you think BMW would have adopted it and just used one wheel size, would make commercial sense if nothing else? :)

totally agree neil,
i'm famous for messing about with the perfect set up.....
"no idea with some of the gear!"
if i'm honest the car felt better to drive with standard fronts and 15mm spacers but as billy's csl beautifully illustrates...it looks f...ing lovely and agressive and i'm going to persist with the square set up in the hope that i will adjust to the feel of the car's behaviour...

Mike R,
now i've sussed pic upload
i'll drag the car out on the next dry day and snap away

mine's no match for billy's csl in the picture department, i first saw billy's csl @ elms meet in oct 2011...well i heard it first about half a mile from elms on approach!!!
It really is a sound to behold....

Lovely :).

I'll guarantee you Ben the Tram lining will eventually P**S you off good & proper on our pot hole ridden roads. Yes ! it looks great but...
I run a square 19" rears all round (albeit) E46 M3 19" rears which are the same size & off set as the CSL rears but a little heavier. It lasted less than 8 months and I'm now back to OEM 19" CSL set up with full PHAT CUPs and 12 mm H&R spacers @ the front + 10 mm H&R spacers @ the back. For me this combination is sweet as a nut :supz:

Yeah the Red BREMBO BBK really stood out against the black wheel but I just prefer the "Sleeper" OEM look with cheeky spacers :supz:

I would drive on the front wheels, and bring the rears for the ring and the salzburgring.....
then you will look tough on track where it counts and won't wear your inner edges on the million mile motorway journey:beer:

'Optimum' The best or most favorable condition, the greatest amount or degree possible under specific sets of comparable circumstances, you had to ask Jimbo :hahaha:

My understanding is that the CSL was developed on a track, specifically the 'Ring', however as most normal roads bare little or no resemblance to that, what we have is a compromise in the interests of general usability.

Do you run 19" rears all round all the time or only on special occasions?

Rob,

I have run rears all round since simpsons altered my front camber.... no inner arch rub but it still tramlines like a bitch on any worn road surface.

15mm spacers with oem fronts are the best compromise as the tramlining can snatch the wheel if you're noddying.....:smokin:

Sorry to bring an old thread back up from the dead, but does a square setup and the aggressive camber people spoke about (3 degrees or more) require aftermarket top mounts etc.?
