Hi Paul,
I normally go with Circuit Days, which is the "all-inc" deal (but normally for one day) - last time we went, we were gutted to learn that there was another track day the day after, which we could have gone on if we'd booked with DN instead, so could you give me the full SP (as in what do you do about hotel etc?)?

Sorry for late reply Mike ;)

We just book into one of the regular hotels for a few nights and make a decent trip out of it.
Tend to use either Eddy's and the Tiergarten for hotels.
Ferry from Newcastle for us.

Cheers,

CLAYTON

I'm hoping to book it up soon. Booking a holiday this weekend so will see how finances are. Really want to do it since I had to cancel DN6

I'm going over end of August for WSBK at the F1 circuit and a few laps over 5 days...

I'm going to DN9 and am debating whether to roll out the CSL or stick with Rodney (E36 track car). It hurts to put the miles and wear on the CSL, but equally it hurts not taking it round the 'ring.

Great showing of CSLs at DN8 and good to chat with a couple of you (Chicken and Richard).

I can't remember who I was talking with but was basically saying that I was thinking of mothballing the CSL. They summed it up perfectly by stating "Whats the point of having it if you dont get out there and enjoy it". So true!

I would be up for this but CCI wont touch the ring! anyone know of a way round it?

They should do for DN days as they are closed and private. The last one I done there they covered me for a fee.

When was that mate? Are you planning to get cover for this one from them? They said they'll only insure the GP circuit now...

Let me know if they will cover it! I'm in if that's the case...

Yes you just get track insurance...... Covers your car but not barriers... You can get it for TF too but what's the point?

Are you sure? From CCI? Only took out my policy the other week and just checked the wording - track days included exclude the Nurburgring (both touristhaufen days and private track days) only the Nurburgring F1circurt is covered...

What am I missing here boys?

Graham

You might be able to get cover but pay a bit extra. They might be saying that so you don't think it's included in your 5 free trackdays

I am also booked on - taking Rodney the track car, but also taking my new toy (GTR) and hoping not to bin it on its maiden outing to the 'Ring. I will be taking it steady.

CCI will definitely insure cars for Destination Nurburgring events. I've insured my CSL all 3 times I've taken it on DN events. The cost varies a little, but usually it's in the region of...wait for it...£450 for two days.

I've been to most DN events, including DN8, and there were a few cars that suffered some bumps and scrapes (including a GT3 and a 458). If I take the GTR round, I'm insuring it. Rodney is not insured and I don't care if he takes a knock or two, so if you see him in your mirror...

I was considering maybe insuring it....now I'm not

CCI just beat their previous record for daylight robbery and just quoted me over £400 to insure my new GTR for one day of DN9. So I don't suppose I'll be insuring mine either.

Epic weekend!

GregorJP
09-08-2013, 04:37 PM
Not so epic for me, unfortunately. The throttle cable on the E36 broke on the Monday, and then the clutch ate itself on the first lap of Tuesday. Spent all morning at Jaco's Paddock to see if it could be replaced. Not so. Also got some tough home truths about the safety (or lack of it) in the E36 and I think the outcome is that we are going to have to get a new shell and lots of other gear. Downer.

On the upside, the lack of the E36 acted as an impetus to take my new GTR for its virgin ringfest on the Tuesday afternoon. Here are a couple of laps.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Hnux39Vrr8

Embarrassingly, my mate in his GTR left me for dead on the first lap, but then (as a weak defence) I'd never driven the car on the Ring before and it was both uninsured and my journey home. Still, I was impressed by the way that the electronics manage such a heavy and powerful car. It does drive itself a bit, though.

What was absolutely certain was that I missed the CSL (which is still at Elms and should really be sold, as I can't afford to keep it). There were several CSLs on track and they were cornering so sweetly and sounding so great that I wished I had arrived in one.

Mike R
09-08-2013, 05:16 PM
That was a nice couple of laps :). However, what was that REALLY annoying double beep every now and again? I thought it might have been to alert you to shift, but it seems to do it even when not sounding like it is revving hard?

You passed us at 13.11 - my mate driving (with it being his first time in a rear-wheel-drive car, he drove it extremely respectfully and spent most of his time looking in the mirrors). He was so paranoid about crashing, he actually went faster in the Swift :hahaha:.

GregorJP
11-08-2013, 09:12 AM
Mike, funny that the beep really annoyed you - it REALLY annoyed me. It's my radar detector, which beeps each time I exceed 90 mph. I forgot to switch it off each time I went round and once I'd set off, couldn't reach round the back to pull it off the cradle. You need to be out of the car to disconnect it.

I remember passing your car, actually - it looks very sweet - and was going so slowly compared to the other CSLs that I thought it was on a cool down lap (don't tell your mate that).. Reminds me of when I first went to the Ring about 5 years ago in my 911 and spent most of the time terrified, watching the mirrors, inadvertently hitting the wipers and generally driving like a grandma. I still feel that way at the Ring sometimes, which is why I love it.
