I am going to my lock up tomorrow and can measure then, unless someone can walk to their garage and do it for you before then

That would be great thank you

There you go 23mm high x 70mm in length :supz:

Image is as they came with the car, Dealers were supposed to fit but some didn't bother and handed the Plaque over when the car was collected. Some didn't even do that!
A similar scenario to the ever elusive 'CSL' keyring.

For the £60k new price, they ought to have done a numbered plaque.

I agree! But also should have been a total production number and not just UK....looked like a big afterthought to me

yes, yes and yes.

However, even the mighty E30 Sport Evo did not have a numbered plaque - only 1 of 600 moniker.

The earlier E30 M3 Evo 220ps did have a numbered plaque, made out of solid aluminium(I think) and numbered 1 of 500 etc.

The GTS has a numbered plaque I think.

It was just the interior and roof that was the afterthought

You forgot the Halfords spoiler ;)

Within one weekend in 1972 (I think) BMW developed a better looking spoiler on the E9 CSL. Price of progress - less art, more science sort of.

Numbered plaques were issued in some countries, just not here for some obscure reason?
Couldn't have been cost as "1 OF 422 UNITS" would cost less than "UK PRODUCTION 422 UNITS" that was obviously never thought through, as it's purely a statement of fact.

Thank you for the measurements Neil. I might be able to get the missing piece of the puzzle now.

BMW know exactly what sequence they built all the CSL's, so to my mind they should have had numbered plates for the whole production not just UK cars. I'm sure BMW could do this from their records.

Maybe lobby BMW when we get to Munich?
