View Full Version : Brakes for Salzburgring ?????

I can't decide whether to book the Salzburgring track event or not. My main reason is my car is completly standard . The brakes all round are only 12 months old and seems a shame to wreck them.

Would pads all round suffice I.e ds2500 or pagid rs29's
I plan on Munich. Salzburgring and the Thursday at the ring for a quick 8 lapper !
My old car had fantastic brakes and suspension setup. Im suprised how inadequate the csl's are .:moan:

Put the R29's in all round and car will be good and they won't bugger the disc's but the DS2500 will eat them :(

Trouble is I'm reluctant to spend on pads when I'll do a 6 pot setup eventually.

What to do ???

One thing to say. Do the AP set up NOW, best money you will ever spend and never look back. Get booked in at Simpsons and sort it in April.

Do the 6 pots but ask for pagid's rather than pads supplied (DS2500) :-D

From the link I saw it seems to be a fast flowing track with only a couple of braking areas. I may be wrong.
Normal brakes are fine and I would say go for it, just don't go for indurance stints ....

What people's opinions on the BMW performance calipers group buy on cutters ?

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=67110

Not prepared to get the AP's this year. I've only had the car 3 months ! The wife would go mad. I can hide the lower priced stuff :smt055

AP's are the best for performance, pad availability and spares etc etc

Theres nothing wrong with OEM unless you are going to track it a lot.
If you are, save until you can get the APs

Once you have had a decent set up on a car, oem stuff just isn't up to the grade..... so flex that card and get some AP's, as shim says, you won't look back....

Salzburg is a long way to go, but the way I see it I am never going to be on track with 50 csl's, bmw instructors, and heidi:smt055 in the background. It has to be done:beer:

I'm looking ahead a bit here too .. but where is the best place to source the AP kit ? Front kit only required ?

I wouldn't buy AP's anyway. Loads if people have problems with them. Am I right in thinking they have no dust seals ? Yes they prob are the best when working 100% but can't justify them.

Questmead are normally the place, but I find Demon Tweeks are the cheapest at the moment, you need to get pricing from the right people. Some of the staff say there is no movement, when there is.

They have always matched and more often than not beaten other quotes.

imo, an' I've said it before, ap are great etc but standard with RS29/lines/fluid is great also and manageable. Intrax would get my dosh before ap. I have standard suspension but would say the difference to Intrax is greater than the difference to ap/ standard with rs29's.

? can you show me any performance 6pot caliper that does have dust seals???? my 7040 ap's did, but the seals just crack when you use them on track, my 5575 don't..... neither do the alcons....

Formula road kit has dust seals etc, only ever had 1 issue which AP resolved FOC even when the calipers where 2 years old ! weve used them on numerous race cars with no issues, all the BTCC cars we supply run them as part of the NGTC spec and no issues, just a good allround caliper.

I don't know anyone that has a problem with them.

I thought I'd opened a can of worms when I said I didn't rate AP's lol. Not slagging them just don't fancy them.

Thorney do a drive in drive out pagid rs29 all round with fluids £580. But I could do it myself. Good price but wasted if going for BBK

Lol yes how wrong was that comment. I take it back :-) I meant when pedalling on, the std brakes don't fill you full of confidence.

Ap's all round with RS29's was the best mod i did on my CSL by far....

Have you been in a CSL with AP's all round on track?

If you haven't then get yourself a few passenger laps on track with someone who has them and i'm pretty sure afterwards you will become a believer.

My only experience of a csl is my own. AP's won't be going on before Germany unless a 2nd hand set pops up.

I bought a set recently and was closer to £3200 for all 4 corners with DS2500 pads supplied. That was ASPerformance who supplied them in a little over 2 weeks after all the other suppliers including Thorney, Demontweeks and Questmeade quoted me 4-6 weeks lead time.

Hope this helps.

Looking on Thorney website the fr+r set-up is approx 3700inc vat. Would need to add in the Pagids though

Cheers. Not looked at it properly, but i think the Thorney price includes rear discs (approx £500)?

eta - Mmmm, don't think the Thorney kit does include rear discs...

OEM rear discs are the way to go.
Lighter and better quality (not to mention semi-floating) than AP or PF that are one piece.

Can I just mention that the customer service from Alyn at ASPerformance was top quality and he can supply the pagids at a discounted rate as organised by Billy in another thread.
