Or Snow Joke part 2!

Was awoken this AM at 5:50 by one of my engineers saying he couldn't get his van off the drive to go to a job in London.
Had a look out of the window and circa 5 inches of snow had fallen overnight!

Has this was the day I was driving 320 miles round trip to collect my CSL I was a little concerned....

So, bite to eat and get the part ex (R32) out of the garage to drive down sarf!

R32 coped excellently with the local snow (motorways were OK) and I was Guildford way by 10:30.

Cesil was clean and dry in the dealers garage. After a bit of paperwork and a coffee I was on my way back home.

I must say, my new steed coped well - a steady 80 or so on the way back and by the time of my return, the roads at home were more RWD friendly!

A quick pressure wash to get rid of the salt and he's tucked up in my garage!

30.2MPG! that was better than the Golf on the way down.

PICS etc to follow and no doubt more questions:beer:

Congratulations

A bit of windows down - Sport on - S6 action when the weather improves will sort out that MPG figure though, don't worry! ;)

Well done finding the right car - congratulations!

If nothing else, the journey just proves how usable these cars are - I've never understood people who won't drive them when it's not sunny and dry.

Enjoy it.

Thanks Olly - are you missing yours yet?

Ref The May trip, i'm not sure at the mo - its very close to the wife's birthday (trip arranged for this)
Currently. I'm thinking that 'my wife goodwill pot' is somewhat depleted, due to my recent purchase...

But I am thinking of ways to give it a boost (re new kitchen), so you never know.

Anyone like to chip in with a estimated cost for tunnel / hotels for the trip?

Tunnel £141 return
Hotels see München & Salzburg hotel threads (can't remember off hand)
Track day £250
Petrol depends if you drive it like you stole it

All in I estimated at around the 2k mark which would cover everything.

Nice Work.

I was supposed to be taking mine out today, but snow scuppered that.

I've nudged 40mpg before, cruising carefully on the M-way at 65-70.

I tend to say "once you have factored in the cheaper fuel, lower food costs and great exchange rate and after all it is a "business trip" then it's actually saving only for me to go rather than stay here, so with the money I save, you sweetheart can buy a new pair of boots" :-D

I suggested that mine should fly out, but she is coming along to share the drive. It's going to cost me an arm & leg to contine the trip after Salzburg as you should see the hotels she has booked. :bigcry:

Cheers Derek and thanks for all your advice over the last few weeks.

This forum continues to impress me with it's unbiased, sensible input!
(yes, you can quote me on that)

Having just driven my new car for a few hours, I can see why you are reluctant to move past yours.

In short -don't, don't!! :banghead:

PS did the weather scupper your viewing plans this weekend?
