I am registered on this forum for a while but not posting very much. I am taking much more time to read you guys ;)
I think I never really introduced myself and neither my car over here in past so maybe it is the moment. :partyman:.
The only topic I created was the one concerning Castellet Race Track :
http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8527
Then to do the things in order... my name is Olivier, I am living in the South of the France, in the mountains around Nice. I will make a lot of mistake in English, then do not hesitate to correct me or ask for precisions if I am not understandable
I bought my CSL 3 years ago. I was wanted only black one. I get opportunity to get this one from a good friend and many things have been done on it. All the chassis has been set by Delage Motorsport immediately after buying. He modified all the drive train parts and changed all was necessary. He also changed the drive shaft, flectors, engine supports and made a perfect geometry.
Once get back the car, it was simply not the same…:smt077
The car got some PSS10 suspensions, Supersprint Race exhaust and X Pipe.
Here are some pics :

The only one problem I had with was the orange engine light on the dashboard. I placed a small sentence on this subject on my "Castellet" topic.
It was visible after drive under the rain or after washing. Since 3 months it was visible every time …
I discussed about it on French Motorsport forum and solution was found by replacing exhaust camshaft position sensor. A post was created on M3 Forum.net with a DIY (http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=328247)
It takes around 2 hours when you do the things slowly but impossible to use a standard Allen key, I cut one :

http://imageshack.us/a/img826/6733/culassey.jpg
Finally extracted the sensor and place the new one :
http://imageshack.us/a/img716/4032/generateur.jpg
But … if, as me, you are losing a screw, you will have to find a solution to go get it !

http://imageshack.us/a/img189/6564/filtreo.jpg
Fortunately, it was the good way to do !
No more light after 2 driving session.
May be this problem and solution is well known here, sorry for the double information then ;-)
May be this topic is not at the good place, you can move it if you want, :hahaha:.

Hi, my first post in CSL Register - so i hope its useful!
For hard to reach screws, Wera tools do something called a Bit Ratchet which is TINY. Too late in this case though :(. I have one and its more useful than a very useful thing.
I'm starting the search for my first CSL, this black one looks stunning - I'm jealous as hell :) Nice one.
Current cars e39 520i touring, e36 328i saloon, e46 325ci M-Sport.
Enjoy!

I will try to come in May but I have a business trip planned … to Munich during the same period. I am trying to cancel it !
We are seeing rain sometimes yes... not often. That is true.
By principle, I never drive the car when it is raining outside. Then my problem appears after a long period :)

Sounds like you need to take the car on the business trip, then in the evening when finished join us.

I could not share my passion at work. France is not England or US on this point... then nobody knows about this car. This is complicated here :banghead:
And when arrived in Munich, I take a car and go directly to Tcheque Republic for a week 1/2 of work.:smt079
BUT, I asked to move this travel to my boss. We'll see.

Hi Thanks Roland
I do not know yet if I can come due to my work.:bigcry:
All the problem is that I heard about this trip too late . It would have been very easy to manage to come if I known it before, but now I am trying to move some things to be able to come and it is creating some problems in the work scheduling.:(

This fu.... orange engine light came back !!! :banghead:
There is really no impact on the driving or car behavior ... but I want to remove this thing.
Does somebody have an idea about the root cause ?
I already changed the impulsion generator (for nothing )
Thanks
Hello,
I had this once. It was the lambda sensor.
Bonne chance,
Alex

Do you have a reference for this piece and eventually ... "how to do" topic ?
It should not be too difficult I guess.

It should not be too difficult I guess.Hi mate you should get it put onto a diagnostics machine first find the fault coded.if you want or need help with this or mot in north london I could help you.

Thanks all for your reply !
During my last service checking I asked for a diagnostic test due to this light. The message was not in "memory". The light was not visible when I drove the car to this garage (but the day before it was) and the light appeared again just 5 minutes after this diag test...
@Adem : thanks a lot for your proposition, but I am a bit far from London :-)
@Shimmy : I heard that there were several lambda sensor. The "post cat 02" is the sensor that everybody changed here ?
Is there a reference of this piece available ? May be I could order it directly on internet.

@Adem : do you know the reference of the lambda to order ? I mean...the one everybody here changed

There you go Olive:BMW: 11 781 405 324, or Bosch: 0 258 003 771, I think these are correct for the after cat.
Olive

Once again Neil : :partyman::-D
I got it : http://www.oscaro.com/sonde-lambda-bosch-0-258-986-505-21472-3922-p
Is there some special difficulties to replace it ? May be there is already a thread on this topic ?

i Found the ETK concerning this reference but there are 2 Sensors, one by cat. Why only one of both seems to be impacted by this problem ?
I think I'm right in saying there are 4 in total. Two pre cat and two post cat. The two post cat are easy to get at and remove, the two pre cat ones are very difficult to get to, they are in the downpipes in the engine bay and accessed from below. BMW recommend getting them replaced in pairs, ie replace both pre or both post cat sensors for perfect running. I got all 4 replaced free of charge though :supz:

It means i better should order both.ok. But it means also it could be not 1 or 2 but maybe 4 references to replace... Not the same thing :-(
Correct! Which is why BMW changed all 4 on my car to be sure!
Great for me as it was on warranty but not good if you are paying for them :bigcry:

I will probably change it by pair in two times to check the result. I will start by the post cata ones to test. Its seems that you all have problems with these ones first.
I am waiting for a OBD2 test from a friend to be sure before ordering the part.

Lambda sensors do tend to fail about the same time & the general recommendation (for any vehicle) is to replace them in pairs. Not cheap for 4 of them!
Olive

Thanks for your reply. I will proceed by pair :moan:. Strarting by the post cata.

Some news. I made an A/C refresh today and asked to the garage to checking the MIL problem. They did not saw anything on the diag (it was not a BMW garage). I bought 2 days ago a diag EML327 and tested it when I came back. Nothing for me neither, BUT, something is strange when I look the analysis.
Very few lines of the check list are supported. Maybe 3 lines on the 35/40 available are "supported".
Then I think that if those machines are not able to check it ... they can not find the trouble. Could it be link to the Alpha Numerical settings of this car ?

I finally bought a BM Technic device, received and installed today. Very good program !
I think I can confirm my problem of lambda sensor...but probably all 4 (before and after the catalyser) :

Do you know where I could find a clear definition for each code related to the pieces to replace ?
