View Full Version : Rubber - Eagles or Super Sports?
The CSL i'm buying currently has GY Eagles on it (rear tread approx 4mm), but have the chance to buy some used Super Sport's. Are the Sports better?

SS are the better tyre but I wouldn't be buying second hand ones.
Just drive on the eagles until they need replaced then buy some new SS.
Cheers guys. The Sports are nearly new (7mm). How much is a full set - brand new out of interest? £1k?

Well they have a lot of life left in them in that case. Yes around 1K would be close to the mark.
Maybe I am just a bit skeptical when it comes to second hand tyres I dunno, they are the only thing keeping you on the road so I always buy good ones.

I just bought a new set of GOODYEAR, paid £710 for a full set I find them a good all round tyre and wear well, £250 + cheaper than the SS but everyone is diffrent

I have to agree with Yanto (2nd time today) that's the right way to do it if the budget allows, I'd still buy the Super Sports as they're almost new and keep until needed
Chris, that's what makes it so green, I can't imagine the West without it raining.

Out of curiosity is there a favoured choice of wheel for the track/spare set...
...a decent lightish wheel of reasonable £age? - soo much cack out there!

I did the circuit of Ireland 4 yrs in a row with my mate from Belfast in an a 300+ bhp Integrale :notworthy: ...you know it's summer when the bands are marching up & down

I got a quote from Camskills for 4 SuperSports recently in CSL size for about £900 delivered (not fitted). Going to get them ordered next week I think

It's something I remember happening over here one day back in 1997 Chris ;)

Unless your going to do a few track days a year Cups are not worth the hassle imo.
I used to carry two sets of wheels around at tracks and it seemed to take me forever changing wheels and suspension! Plus you have got to load/unload car, jack etc.....
I won't be doing that again so for a good all round tyre i don't think the SS can be beaten atm. I ordering a set for the Pork next month....

+1
As above, having done the same, I can honestly say that SS are the best solution, particularly if you only have one set of wheels.
Whilst MPSC do offer extra grip in the dry, it is only marginally more than the SS whereas it was considerably more than the old PS2 that many used.
More importantly in my opinion, SS are much, much, better than MPSC in the wet on track and road - important if you are driving across to the Ring and cannot rely on dry weather!
All IMHO of course 😜

Completely agree with everything said about SS's. I have them on my CSL and GT3. Its just not funny how few miles a rear set of Cups lasts on a GT3. So SS's the best solution. Especially since it only gets used as a euro trip/weekend shopper.
Ive done a couple of track days on SS's in the CSL following other CSL's on Cups and tbh there wasnt a lot in it. Only after a few laps could you feel it starting to understeer a little, where as the cups would keep gripping.
Plus it only takes one experience of heavy rain on the autobahn on worn cups to make you wish you had SS's :-D

looks like I should invest in some SS when my current Vredestein need replacing ( although I do havea spare set of wheel I could put some SS's on )
Yup, you've all convinced me to go SS.... being fitted to car hopefully today or Monday :)

Man up and get Cups on. All the tyre you ever need.......:smokin:
But if you absolutely have to choose something else then Supersports are the only option. Still :gayfight: but acceptable.

Hi chrisburns ...sorry going off-piste here but I've noticed that is almost de rigueur here
Don and I were only chasing the rally around Ireland not competing! Best fun I've ever had  Dunfanaghy and air-time around Atlantic Drive, I held the 'unofficial record' there from one of the pubs at Downings? and back for a while - GREAT fun beach racing - 4wd & wet sand joy rides - seem to remember the clutch didn't have as much fun :smokin:
Hope to get over there this year in the csl - NOT on the beach :-D
LOL that only happens a few weeks of the year.
