I'm a tart, can't help it - I have fresh paint on the csl front end and was thinking of doing some clear wrap panels before the next track day abuse - comments???
I know they're not to everyones tastes (awaits abuse :-D) but anyone here used armourfend or equivelants...
7472
i.e. Bumber panel is £133+vat & smallest £12+vat & fitting if required...

Always been a bit unsure of this stuff. Great idea in principle but the problem is for the cost you could get the front end redone again.
How long do these kits last before they need replacing ? And am I right in thinking certain ones damage the paint underneath ?

Had mine done, maybe 3 years ago, the mirror sheets aren't the best fitting but the bumper is unmarked. To take it off I have been told, just make sure it's warm. It doesn't need to be taken off :)
1 thing, the cut out round the front badge isn't great either, they should have a complete piece and then place the badge over it.
Your price seems cheap, I'm sure things have moved on since I fitted mine.
I think it is good stuff !

Have to admit Mark that all looks very impressive. Guess its a bit like window tinting though, bit of a black art really.

I've done it to my cars too. On my current GT3 I have had it put on the bonnet, front wings around the headlights, LED DRLs, mirrors, sills, behind the wheel arches to stop rock flip ups from the tyres, rear wings in front of the wheels, A pillars, leading edge of the roof.
It is very good, on my old 996t the dealer damaged the front bar which marked the film, but didn't damage the paint, so it saved a repaint which runs all the risks of a poor job and different colour.
I'd run it every time for sure. It is much better than a repaint as the original paint is always best and matches the finish of the rest or the car as it is original!

Yes the sellers in the uk dont want to sell the kit unless they install it :moan::moan::moan:

The screen protector on my iphone is made of the same stuff.
Thinking about it if your seen the state of that I can only imagine what the front of my car would turn out like :bigcry:

Yup we used to put it on the Lynx & Gazelle blades at Middle Wallop (AAC)...
Just got a quote from a company near me in Hampshire £399 for majority of the front end...

There is also a similar stuff for windscreens now too by Clearplex. http://www.clearplex.com/ It is good if you track your car a lot or do a lot of highway miles.

Hmmm, not sure about that, HATE the distortion through Ford heated windscreens (hire cars). Yup good theory tho', exagerating a little but the windscreen in the csl is almost frosted bathroom glass when it rains [61k miles]... can feel a breakage coming on
My car has genuine Amourfend fitted to the front section of the bonnet, front bumper, headlights, rear wheel arches, strip below lights & front section of the front wings. It's was fitted by Amourfend themselves mid '09. When I bought the car the stuff was a bit marked but polished out with normal quality polish. Even the edge of the film is difficult to see when you've carefully cleaned it and the sheets are perfectly cut around the bonnet badge etc.. The invoice shows £616.46 all in with a 15% discount. Installation cost was £270+vat.
I reckon it's great stuff :smokin:

My CSL has extensive protection film around it. Most of the exterior, including carbon fibre bits obvioulsy and also the interior cf bits have been done too. I would do it without doubt on next car, very pleased with it.
Here's a write up by the previous owner: http://skiddmark.com/2008/06/running-report-bmw-x6-%E2%80%93-paint-protection/

Highly recommend Nick Phelps at CG Performance in Tring if you want film applied - the best installer of PPF!!! You wouldn't be disappointed
Pay cheap and you get cheap film that will turn yellow after a period of time with leading edges of film starting to lift.
